A Glimpse into LSCA's Future

August 1, 2006

Adeline - Ph D Analytical Chemistry

This year LSCA hired 26 new interns in the US to work at our Little Falls and Santa Clara Sites and they are making real contributions to our business. Can you remember what you were doing the summer after your sophomore or junior year in college? Andrew, a Mechanical Engineering student is helping to improve the quality of the gold quadrupole for our mass spec product, and Adeline, a PhD candidate in Analytical Chemistry is working on new bonded phases for HPLC columns.

Mohammad - EE, Applied Math & Biochemistry

Mohammad, a junior majoring in Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics and Biochemistry is working on reducing band broadening in our atmospheric sampling sources for LCMS, and Bjoern, an MBA student has developed a grant application kit to assist academic researchers in requesting funds from granting institutes to use Agilent microarray products. Three of our students won their internships with Agilent as a result of winning competitions at the International Science and Engineering Fair, for which Agilent is a major sponsor.

Agilent is committed to employing students that bring new perspectives and the latest in academic training to our work environment. We expect the collaboration between the expert talent we already have and the new talent we are acquiring to yield even greater innovations that meet the needs of our customers.

"I feel like I have learned so much in the short amount of time I have been here."
Jodie – MBA Student

As a result, Agilent continues to set more aggressive campus hiring goals each year. LSCA is hiring both undergraduate and graduate students for full time and intern positions in China, India, Germany, Japan, the US, and other countries around the world.

Our summer intern program is a win-win for everyone, according to Kevin Stacia, LSCA’s Global Campus Program Manager. "We provide excellent opportunities for students to develop their skills by applying their academic training to practical business problems, and we get highly motivated and very capable students who provide us with the additional bandwidth we need to advance important projects and initiatives. Internships help us to develop our future workforce."

Zach - Chemical & Biological Eng.

Kevin recently asked a few of our US interns to use one word to describe their internship experience and then tell why they chose that word. Zach, a senior in Chemical and Biological Engineering described his experience as "Challenging". "My internship has required both collaborative and individual problem solving skills based on the knowledge gained in my engineering curriculum."

Jodie, an MBA student, used the word "Enriching" to describe her experience. "I feel like I have learned so much in the short amount of time I have been here, not only about the project I am working on, but also about Agilent as a company and about myself and my capabilities."

Vidya, an MBA student summarized her experience as "Rewarding." I was given an unparalleled opportunity to learn about the business at the same time that I was applying my skills to the project, all while working in a team that was very supportive, friendly, accessible and even encouraging me to be vocal about controversial findings."
